


Colonel St. James lived for a year and a half in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
There the
leaves turn fiery colors in the Fall, then flutter to the ground by the millions!
The good citizens of Grand Rapids rake those leaves into piles on the streets.
Then the city
sends around trucks equipped with huge vacuum hoses to clean up the leaves.
One night
The Colonel witnessed this activity and it inspired him to write a poem
simply entitled:
The Leaf Truck Came By My House Last Night
